CALL FOR PAPERS

Global Health Governance (www.ghgj.org) is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal that provides a platform for academics and practitioners to explore global health issues and their implications to governance and security at national and international levels.  The journal provides interdisciplinary analyses and a vigorous exchange of perspectives that are essential to the understanding of the nature of global health challenges and the strategies aimed at their solution. The Journal is particularly interested in addressing the political, economic, social, and strategic aspects of global health issues.

The next issue of Global Health Governance will focus on the public health challenges posed by noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, asthma, and cancer.   Examples of suitable papers include the increase in NCDs as a cause of mortality; possible sources of the growth of NCDs (e.g., tobacco use, environmental degradation, dietary change); regional variation in the prevalence of NCDs; the influence of gender, culture and social class on prevalence rates of NCDs; the impact of NCDs on economic development; and the role of states, NGOs and transnational advocacy coalitions in the prevention and treatment of NCDs.  The guest editors also welcome submissions of papers outside of the designated theme for this issue.  The deadline for submissions is September 1, 2008.

This guest editors for this special issue are Danielle Roth-Johnson, Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Women’s Studies, University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Andrew Price-Smith, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Colorado College; and John P. Tuman, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, and Director of the Institute for Latin American Studies, University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Since manuscripts are sent out anonymously for editorial evaluation, the author’s name and affiliation should appear only on a separate cover page.

GHG articles are around 8,000 words long including endnotes.

• All text, including endnotes, should be double-spaced with wide margins.
• Any tables or graphs should be placed on separate pages at the end of the manuscript.
• All GHG articles are expected to be endnoted, following the Chicago Manual of Style. Authors may refer to previous issues of GHG for style.
• A summary of up to 125 words should be included with the article. The summary should state the main argument clearly and concisely, not simply say what the article is about.
• A short author’s biography of one or two lines should also be included. This information will appear at the foot of the first page of the article.

The procedures for reviewing manuscripts are based on the anonymity of the author and the confidentiality of readers’ and editor’s reports. Editorial policy does not provide for transmitting readers’ evaluations to authors of rejected manuscripts. Articles submitted to GHG should be original research and should not have been already published or considered for publication elsewhere. Proofs will normally be sent to authors for checking and making essential corrections, not for general revision or alteration. They should be corrected and returned to the publishers within three days of receipt.
